Ohzora (EXOS-C)
Mission Descriptions
"Ohzora" is the middle-atmosphere observing satellite launched on February 14, 1984, to study the structure and composition of the middle atmosphere, to observe the magnetosphere, and to take part in the international collaboration for the Middle Atmosphere Program (MAP), which was run between 1982-1985. Of the 11 instruments onboard "Ohzora", five were used to study the atmospheric environment, while the other six were used to study the Earth's electromagnetic environment. After four years of operation, it has provided valuable data for "observation of absorption spectrum of sunlight by trace elements in the middle atmosphere" and "observation of high-energy particles over the polar regions and the South Pacific Geomagnetic Anomaly Zones".
